Course Overview

Course Overview

Dip powder solves a specific problem: clients who want long-wearing color without sitting under a UV or LED lamp. This one-day course teaches you how to deliver that result, built on a Russian Manicure foundation for precise, salon-quality prep.

You’ll spend the morning on theory — how the base, activator, and powder work together, how to match colors accurately, and why layering technique matters more with dip than with almost any other system. By the afternoon, you’re applying everything on a live model, coat by coat, with feedback at each step.

Note: This course focuses on Dip Powder application and is not a state licensing program. It is skill-specific training providing professional certification.

This is a focused, single-technique course. If you want the full range — structured gel, cuticle work, repairs, nail art — that’s what the 3-Day Russian Manicure Foundation Course covers.

Who Is This Course For?

Who Is This Course For?

This course is a good fit if you:

– Are a beginner looking to learn Dip Powder professionally

– Are an experienced nail technician adding a new service to your menu

– Already work with gel or acrylic and want to learn a different enhancement system

– Want to combine Dip Powder application with Russian Manicure fundamentals

– Want hands-on practice with a live model rather than demonstration-only training

Nail Tech Service
Why Add Dip Powder to Your Service Menu?

Why Add Dip Powder to Your Service Menu?

– No UV/LED Lamp Required — Dip Powder systems cure through an activator rather than UV or LED light

– Wide Color Range at Low Cost — powder systems let you offer more colors without the cost of individual gel polish bottles

– A Distinct Service for Sensitive Clients — an option for clients who avoid gel due to lamp exposure or product sensitivity

– Odor Profile Different From Acrylic — no liquid monomer smell, though activator products still have their own scent

You are not simply learning how to apply Dip Powder — you are learning how to combine professional Dip Powder application with precise Russian Manicure preparation.

Course Curriculum

Hands-On Training: Every student works on one hand of a live model provided by the academy, with individual instructor feedback throughout the service.
Your live model is provided by the academy — no need to bring your own.

Students will learn:
- Career opportunities and how to add Dip Powder to your service menu
- Basic nail anatomy and nail plate health considerations for dip systems
- Introduction to the Russian Manicure technique
- Dip powder system components: base, activator, powder, and top coat
- How to match and blend powder colors for even, consistent coverage
- Layering and dipping technique for building structure without bulk
- Proper activator timing and curing between layers
- Soak-off removal process and why it differs from gel or acrylic removal
- How dip powder compares with traditional gel systems

Throughout the theory session, the instructor explains the complete service while demonstrating professional techniques, products, and equipment.

Lunch Break — 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

The instructor demonstrates a complete Russian Manicure with Dip Powder application, explaining each step from nail preparation to the finished result.

Each student completes the full service on one hand of a live model. This format allows the instructor to provide individual correction and feedback throughout the entire service, rather than having students simply follow a demonstration.

Training includes:
- Nail preparation
- Russian Manicure fundamentals
- Dipping technique: base application, powder dip, and excess removal
- Building even layers without adding bulk at the cuticle or sidewalls
- Creating a clean, close-to-cuticle application with a refined finish
- Shaping and finishing
- Individual technique correction and instructor feedback

I had a Russian manicure with deep powder at Why Not Nails, and I’m absolutely in love with the results. The cuticle work was extremely precise and clean, giving my nails a flawless and polished look. The deep powder application is smooth, lightweight, and very durable. My nails look elegant, natural, and well-groomed, and the manicure lasts beautifully without chipping. The attention to detail and professionalism at Why Not Nails really stand out. Highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for high-quality Russian manicure and long-lasting results

This is the best nail salon in Brooklyn. I've been coming here since 2019. The service is excellent, and the girls are true professionals. They always offer coffee or tea, and the administrators are very friendly.????

I came to the WHY NOT NAILS salon as a model. They did a wonderful job on my nails, including extensions and careful cuticle removal without any cuts. They took all my color preferences into account. The atmosphere in the salon was lovely and I left in a great mood. Thank you so much!

I’ve been going to WhyNot Nails for around 4 years now. I really love the atmosphere here, and the service is just excellent. The quality is outstanding. I come here both as a client and as a hand model, and they do a fantastic job. I’ve uploaded photos of my gel Russian manicure: some pictures are from this year, and some are from previous years. Lisa is absolutely amazing. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and I hope the salon continues to grow in the future. Thank you!

No. Dip Powder cures with a liquid activator instead of a UV or LED lamp, which is one of the main reasons clients choose it as an alternative to gel.

Dip Powder is removed by soaking in acetone, similar to gel — but the soak time and technique differ because of the layered powder structure. The course covers the fundamentals of the application process; safe soak-off principles are introduced as part of the theory session.
